Broadcast messages

When logged in to SPEAR, you may see a broadcast message. This allows the SPEAR Service Desk to communicate with users regarding improvements, outages and other important information.

When a message appears, you can choose whether you want the message to be displayed again tomorrow, or never again.

NOTE: The 'Remind me tomorrow' option will not be available if the broadcast message is due to expire tomorrow.

Regardless of the option selected, all current broadcast messages can be viewed by clicking on the Broadcast Messages hyperlink at the top of your Application List screen.

Create a broadcast message

Local Administrators have the ability to display messages to users in their organisation. The option to manage broadcast messages is available from the Administration menu, which can be accessed by selecting 'Administrator' from the 'Current user role' drop-down list.

Steps

You will need to complete the following to display a new broadcast message:

  1. Select the option 'Manage Broadcast Messages' from the Administration Menu.
  2. On the Current Broadcast Messages screen, click on 'add new'.
  3. On the Create New Broadcast Message screen, select between 'plain text' and 'HTML' message format.
  4. Enter information into the mandatory fields of 'Heading' and 'Message'.
  5. Click the calendar icon and select the date and time for the message to start and expire.
  6. You can attach a document to the message by clicking on 'browse'. The attachment must be a PDF file. Click on 'Attach Document'.
  7. Click on 'create'.
  8. A confirmation message will be displayed. Click on 'return' to go back to the Current Broadcast Messages screen.
  9. The screen will display the message you created with an edit link.
  10. Click on 'cancel' to return to the Administration Menu.

You can return to your previous user role by selecting it from the 'Current user role' drop-down list.
